A mountain range running east-west across the northern part of the main island, the Backbone Mountains separate the Rainy Basin from the Northern Plains. Many large mammalian species live here.
Like the other ranges, Backbone Mountains have suffered rockslides and destabilisation, and are difficult to cross on foot. The mammals there are difficult to find and more hostile than previously.
