Dinotopia is a melting-pot of cultures and ethnicities. Located as it is on a hidden island, the culture that has developed is one based strongly on community. The above Code of Dinotopia describes the Dinotopian community spirit, and it is this spirit which has survived to the modern day—though the exact nuances of the Code’s meaning are frequently debated by Dinotopian philosophers. Humans are the singular majority, but saurians are in nearly equal abundance, and it is their presence which has enabled a particularly benevolent slant to the whole of the culture.
A life in Dinotopia is the opportunity to make something of one’s self other than whatever they were before, regardless of gender, ethnicity, nationality or religion. Dolphinbacks are encouraged to find positions and lifestyles where they will be happy, fulfilled and functioning members of society.
The following pages are overviews relating to how the Dinotopians culture fits together in the modern era.
Society
The Dinotopian social consciousness, where it came from and how it influences the ways in which they engage with each other and their land.
Lifestyle
Dinotopian lifestyle includes many festivals relating to their sense of timing and seasons, but also including many celebrations brought to them from other cultures.
Law
Law is lenient and fluid in Dinotopia, and very much considered a matter of perspective and forgiveness.
Education
In many ways Dinotopia’s education consists of apprenticeships and trades, though academia is certainly a possibility.
Technology
Technology has progressed since the mid-1800s, though in different ways to outside nations and arguably not as far as it could have.
Saurians
Dinosaurs occupy an important and inescapable facet of Dinotopian culture, particularly in light of their physical attributes, lifespans and behaviour.
