What about characters who don't speak any Earth languages, either because they are from a non-Earth fantasy universe or because they are extraterrestrials? (I realize in some fantasy cases, one can handwave that the character's local language is close enough to English/Spanish/Japanese/etc., but in others, the language is explicitly not.)

I suspect the answer is 'devote your energy to learning the local language ASAP'.

Also, I assume that if you play a character with winged, muscle-powered flight, she will have a hell of a time getting past the winds around the reef, to the point where no power-cap is needed. (Similarly a character who swims as well as the dolphins or better.)
